2016 off and running

2015 is now just another page in the book. A lot happened last year, and I'm hoping 2016 will be even better. I got sidetracked from trying to get a band together because I fell into some work as an extra in a few movies and three TV series. I ended up having a recurring role in a new series on NBC called Game Of Silence which premieres this coming April on the 7th. Hopefully, I will get to work on that show again in season two when they start back filming. I met a lot of great folks on that set, and they are really fun to work with. So look for me on the little screen this Spring in a few shows. I was also in three movies since this past September. I appeared a couple of different times in one coming out in Nov. of 2016 called "Bastards" with Owen Wilson, Ed Helms, Glenn Close and a lot of other folks. It was hoot getting to work with and meet Owen Wilson. I also got to meet one of my all time favorites, Clint Eastwood, when I played an airline representative in the new Warner Bros movie "Sully", which does not have a release date yet. It should be a great movie directed by Clint, and starring Tom Hanks. It was really an honor to work a couple of days with Hanks, Eastwood, and co-star Aaron Eckhart. I also did a few scenes with Chris Evans, who played Captain America, in a new movie called Gifted. So check them out, and you will see my smiling face, if it didn't get left on the cutting room floor! You never know what 2016 has in store for us all, but whatever it is, I hope everyone has a great year!!!

Adventures in Atlanta

I am really starting to enjoy living in Atlanta now. I have found some really great musicians to jam with who have made me feel very much at home. I am even entertaining thoughts of getting a little band together. You never know........ :-)

Spring has sprung .....

Well, it is already Spring and 2015 is moving right along. I am taking it slow getting started booking for this year and right now the only thing I have coming up is finding jam sessions to get involved in around the Atlanta area. I am ready to pick some blues with some of these great musicians around here if they will let me. I will be playing a few songs with the Sand Trippers when we reunite for my 50th class reunion in May in ft. Pierce, Fl.

2015

Well 2015 is well underway and I have already played in Florida, and all over the gulf of Mexico including Belize, Honduras, and Cozumel. I will be playing in and around Atlanta,  GA., and around Vero Beach,  & Ft. Pierce down in Florida soon. I will be playing 3 shows in Charleston, South Carolina with Kermit this coming weekend to celebrate St Patty's at a place called Your Father's Mustache. should be a real hoot! Much more to come as things develop. Hope to see you all somewhere!!

Yep, it's almost gone.....

Well tomorrow is the first of December, and the first day of the last month of the year. It has been a most interesting one to say the least. Hopefully, 2015 will be another interesting one. Life could get pretty boring if it isn't. Here is to looking forward to many exciting new adventures for everyone. May you all have a very Merry Christmas, and a most happy and prosperous New Year!!!!!!!

Goodbye to 2014

Hello to anyone out there who happens to see this. 2014 is rapidly coming to an end and I just played my last solo job of the year yesterday for a private party in The Villages. I had a great time and met some very nice folks. That is always one of the best rewards from playing music for the public. I have always enjoyed it for many reasons, and I will continue to as long as anyone wants to hear what I have to offer. However, my plans for 2015 do not include looking for places to do my solo act all the time. I still have eight Christmas shows to do before the end of the year at The Orange Blossom Opry. I plan to continue performing there on Thursdays when I can, and when I am the featured act on weekends. Those will be less frequent than they have been for 2014 though. I plan to take a lot of time off to enjoy life, jam with old friends, write more, record more, travel some, and I am even planning on several big changes in my life. More specifics on that as they develop, but I will probably leave Ocala in the process. My family all moved away this past summer, and I am getting the urge to move on to greener pastures myself. I am really looking forward to playing when and where I want to, and to writing with some old and new friends. As the old saying goes, when the curtain falls, time passes, and everything changes.........See you around the next bend in the road....

Infamy?

I just got an email last night from Jamie Cunningham who is a PHD and Associate Professor of music at Florida Atlantic University. It had info and links to a book about surfing in Florida that he wrote a chapter for about surf music in Florida. There is a photo and a paragraph on the first of many infamous bands I have been in. The Sand Trippers are noted in Chapter 19 along with a treasure trove of info on other notable florida bands from the 60s until now. The book is filled with photos of the history of surfing in Florida. Here is a link and if you are into music, surfing, and or Florida it is a great addition to any collection.  http://upf.com/book.asp?id=AHOXX001

Another page

I had a great weekend in Ft. Pierce jamming with a couple of bands of old friends this past weekend. I can't wait for the chance to go back and do it again. Now I am looking forward to turning another page in my Ocala experience. I will be substituting for Rick Whitt of the very popular duo Stranded, and playing at The Mojo Grill in Belleview with Mike Smithson. It will be my first time working with him, and my first time working in a duo here. It should be fun, but it will be quite a challenge to take Rick's place. He is a very fine musician and singer who has been working with Mike for about four years and they are very tight. So I am curious to see how it goes and I feel ready for the challenge. It will be the first job I have had where I will be playing acoustic 12 string guitar and keeping the rhythm going for Mike who is a fantastic guitarist. If you are in the area it should be an interesting night. If you aren't, I will let you know how it goes.

No more Eaton's Beach

Well, it was great while it lasted, but I am no longer going to be playing at Eaton's Beach. It has been eight months and things were getting stale around there. Lots of confusion and double bookings around there lately. So it is on to other things. I am still looking at the possibility of joining Mike Smithson in July for weekend duo gigs. I will be joining them again tomorrow night at Charlie Horse.  It has been fun playing with him and he is very talented, so I am looking forward to it. I am also still working with Dean Dillon to put on a couple of big Nashville writers showcases here in Florida this fall. More things cooking in the wings too.......stay tuned ;)

Forward

Things are moving right along around here. It is now June and I had a good time last week playing with the duo Stranded at Charlie Horse in Ocala. It was a lot of fun and went pretty good. Last Friday I went to Mojo's in Belleview and sat in for a couple of songs with them. Tomorrow when I play at Eaton's Beach, the lead guitar player/singer from Stranded, Mike Smithson, will be playing with me to keep the experiment going. If things keep going forward with this adventure I will be joining Mike for weekend gigs at several Mojo's venues and a few other places substituting as the other half of Stranded starting in July. The actual other member, Rick Whitt, will remain as the other half of Stranded for the rest of their gigs. I also have a couple of other interesting possibilities that have popped up. I have been invited up to Gainesville to investigate the possibility of putting something together with a local guitar teacher who plays lead and sings backup. He is very good and I will most likely be going up there sometime in the next few weeks to see what that amounts to. I have to get past a few other pressing issues before trying that and there is also a very talented bass/guitar player/singer who lives just a few blocks from me who is interested in jamming to see what else might be possible. I am going to go jam with therm all for the fun of it and see what happens. It should be and interesting summer.
